Home remedies…not all they’re cracked up to be
Before After
Here is the perfect example of what not to do. This client said that she had decided to go all natural with her hair care. She washed her hair in baking soda and then did a final rinse in vinegar. NO NO NO!! She didn’t understand how using such natural products was damaging her hair and just thought she had bad hair. She didn’t use any conditioner and thought that using the vinegar would keep the hair clean and shiny. No build up.
Ok. NO. You can use baking soda as a natural hair exfoliant. Mix your conditioner with the baking soda and create a paste to gently remove dead cells from the scalp. (on wet clean hair, in the shower using back and forth GENTLE motion. Never circular, you’ll snap your hair off at the root. After you exfoliate the scalp rinse and shampoo again with your sulfate free cleanser and condition as usual. Contact me directly for more information on this technique) An occasional rinse in vinegar will clarify off any product build up for a shinier appearance. However together NEVER!! (Side note. This client suggested that I use her before and after pictures as an example of what not to do.)
Be careful when reading home remedies. Think of your end goal and really look at what and why you are being guided to use them. Make sure the person offering the suggestion is a professional or ask your stylist for their guidance.
